Falcon Family October 2024 Monthly Newsletter
Principal Message
Falcon Families,
October is here! What a fun time of year with all the sports, outside events and shifting of seasons.
We are gearing up for our October 10th Jog-a-Thon! Last week we had the kickoff assembly. All our students were very engaged and excited to learn what they need to do to get pledges. Thank you for your help with raising money! This money goes toward field trips, family activities and classroom needs that exceed what we have in our budget from the state.
The other fundraiser we have is for the playground. We have a plan to replace some play equipment and the black tiles under the play equipment. As you can imagine, the cost is huge! The estimate we have is approximately $200,000. It will take multiple years to raise enough money. Along with all the great restaurant fundraisers PTC has organized, we are looking into ways to acknowledge large donations from different people or businesses. Keep an eye out for upcoming playground fundraisers. Thank you, PTC, families and community members, for all your support!
Warmly,
Shamika Cleveland, Principal

District News
Salem-Keizer Legislative Priorities
At its regularly scheduled September 10 meeting, the Salem-Keizer School Board of Directors voted to adopt their previously outlined 2024-25 legislative priorities ahead of the 2025 legislative long session.
With Oregon State legislators set to convene in January for their session that will include adopting a two-year state budget, the board's action reflects the need for more funding to support student programs and resources.
District-Issued Devices - 2024-25 School Year
Each year, the district distributes electronic devices such as Chromebooks, MacBooks, adapters and chargers for students to use to support their education. These devices and their distribution is overseen by each school and all students and families have a responsibility to handle these devices with care while on loan from the district.
SKPS Safety Systems
Student, staff and visitor safety is Salem-Keizer Public Schools' highest priority. Our nationally-recognized safety systems involve school, district and community-based strategies to prevent, mitigate, and respond to a variety of safety concerns.
